There are many benefits of participating in group therapy that can help individuals who are experiencing specific issues in their lives. At New Narrative Therapy, our therapists are dedicated to helping people overcome obstacles through consultation, assessment, and specialized treatment.

Focusing on Group Therapy

Support

For some individuals, a feeling of being that they are alone in their situation and that no one else is experiencing the same type of issue they are dealing with. This is one facet of group therapy that provides the opportunity for an individual to receive support. With this support system, individuals are also able to provide support to others in the group.

Interaction

It isn't easy for some people to "open" up and talk about their personal problems. With the opportunity to interact with others in group therapy and the realization that they, too, are experiencing some, or all of the same feelings, help each individual find their voice and speak out, openly to others.

Relationships

With group therapy, people have the opportunity to relate, connect, and share with others more easily than when on their own. The group allows one-on-one relationships as well as group relationships. The opportunity to interact with others while the group is in session is a key component of group therapy. Individuals may better understand why people treat them the way they do through this interaction, which can help them improve how they connect with others.

Safety in Numbers

When individuals realize they are not alone and they have the support of others in the group, it creates a safety net that allows personal growth. This growth supports stronger relationships, reduces the feeling of being alone, and strengthens an individual's communication skills.
